Baoji Xinxing (New Star) Aid for Street Kids (ASK) is a non profit, independent private organization specializing in aid for street kids.
Our aim is to provide immediate assistance to children in difficult circumstances and with early intervention and supportive actions we are creating a favorable environment to assist in the rehabilitation of these children.
Mediation is provided for families which assists the children in returning to their family, community and society. We ensure that they regain their elementary rights such as survival, development and education.
Xinxing is the first Chinese NGO established for street children in mainland China, it was founded in March 2006 by a group of national staff previously employed by Medecin sans Frontieres (MSF) at the Baoji Street Children’s Centre in central China
Xinxing functions as a 24 hour open centre with accommodation for 60 children, we admit street Children from all areas of China providing psychological intervention, medical aid, educational support and social investigation assisting the kids to return to society.
Children range in age from 6 years to 18 years; they are either referred by the police, the general public, the Xinxing outreach team or a member of the community.
Xinxing will continue the program for the street children focusing on a multidisciplinary approach providing psychological and medical care and support. The children are able to share their traumas, restore links with their families and restore their self-confidence. The children are taught how to interact with each other and develop their social skills to prepare them for a proper return to society.
We are a well-trained team consisting of 11 national staff and one Australian volunteer who are striving to improve public awareness of the situation of street children in need. Through the participation of the public we aim to create a favorable environment enabling the children to preserve their dignity, restore their self-confidence, to rebuild their ability to access the normal life and be resilient to the challenges in their future.
